According to a recent J.D. Power and Associates study, sales of certified pro-owned vehicles have increased 46% since 2000. Why? Well for many people certified used cars have become affordable alternatives to buying a new car. By "certified used" or "certified pre-owned" we mean used cars that are offered for sale by your local dealer and feature warranties that extend beyond the initial "when new" coverage.
To qualify as a "certified used" or "certified pre-owned" vehicle, the warranty must be backed by the original vehicle manufacturer. The original manufacturer uses its dealer networks to inspect the car, determine if it is worth certifying and then offer support for the vehicle for a period of time that exceeds the original warranty. Not all used car will qualify for certified pre-owned programs and terms of coverage varies from one manufacturer to the next. To have a true pre-owned certified program will include at least a 100 point inspection of the car. If problems are found a factory-trained technician will fix the vehicle or disqualify it from the program.
